ABOUT US

The Parish School of Religion is for catholic children attending government schools in the St John’s Parish.  We have classes each Sunday mornings during the school term beginning at 9.15 am with morning prayer at the parish centre. Our classes finish at 9.55 am to enable children and their families to attend Mass.  The Mass at 10 am during school term has a Children’s Liturgy of the Word.

We follow the Archdiocesan Religious Education program WALKING WITH JESUS authorised and approved by Archbishop Mark Coleridge to be used with Catholic children in the CCD Ministry.  Children receive a student activity book when they are enrolled in the program. We prepare the children from Kindergarten to Year Six. Parents are encouraged to bring their children along beginning in Kindergarten so that they can receive a good formation before beginning to prepare for the sacraments.

Children are prepared for the sacraments in the following years;

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Year 2),

Sacrament of Eucharist (Year 3) and

Sacrament of Confirmation (Year 6)

along with support from the Parish Family Based Sacramental Preparation.  

ENROLMENT

Enrolment period is the first two weekends in February each year.  Children preparing for the sacraments need to begin their classes at the beginning of the year so that they have a good understanding of the sacrament they will be receiving during the year.

COST

A charge of $10 per child covers the costs of the student activity book and other materials used in the program.  An additional cost is involved for children receiving the sacraments to cover the costs of consumables
