Kippax Antioch is located on Blackham St at the Catholic Church, St John the Apostle, Kippax, Canberra ACT. We base our meetings below the church in the community centre each Sunday night starting at 8pm. Before hand we attend Mass as a group at 6pm and then go to dinner together at local take-away cafe, Mama Ria's which is on Hardwick Crescent, Kippax.

Our Antioch community has about 37 members, two parent couples, and one absolutely awesome parish priest.

Sunday nights is the official weekly formal meeting, where things begin with songs and prayer. Weekly News is then shared and next follows is a talk conducted by one of the group's members. The group is then broken up into share groups where we reflect and discuss the topic of the talk. To finish the night, a prayer session is conducted, giving the group a chance to affirm the talker of the night and also to share any special intentions they would have from the week gone and the week to come. The meeting is closed with songs and the ANTIOCH SONG.

On a Wednesday, we hold our social gathering night. At 7pm we meet at the church for an Antioch Mass. Afterwards a different group member each week opens their home up to the rest of the group, where we spend time socialising with each other. This usually begins at 8pm and finishes at 10pm.

At Kippax Antioch, we like to keep a balance between some major ideals to which Antioch promote - God and Prayer, Community and One Self. We get an opportunity to attend Mass twice a week to prayer and be with God, but also to be with our community. With the prayer session, we pray as a community, but its also a perfect time to reflect on our own personal lives. At a social gatherings, we promote the idea of community, sharing with eachother and enjoying everyone's company. There as not been once in the whole history of Kippax, did a Wednesday Night social gathering spent in silence. Someone has always something to say, and someone is always very ready to listen.

Its from these major ideals do we get a set of general rules that every Antioch in Australia follow.

  • Antioch is an Alcohol free-zone: At the Sunday and Wednesday meetings, irrespective of age, Alchohol is not permitted.

  • Antioch is also a Drug free-zone: We do not discriminate anyone, as we are as a community built on the ideal of acceptance. This may include those who have a drug addiction or dependence. However we ask that, what every drug it may be, at the Sunday and Wednesday meetings Drugs are not permitted. Smoking on the other hand is something we do permit, as long as its outside and the butts are disposed of accordingly.

  • No Couples: As Antioch promotes community, being a couple can cause anti-social behaviour. However while we do say no couples, relationships do exist with those who are in Antioch. Being attracted to someone is, of course something that no-one can prevent, so we ask that if you are in a relationship with some one in Antioch, you do not actively show this.

These rules create a safe, friendly and enjoyable enviroment for our group. It must be said, that many, even all of the community, have lives outside of Antioch, some of which are enviroments that include alcohol and drugs.

Antioch is an escape from our daily lives, twice a week, to enjoy the presence of close friends and God. It proves to be for many a life changing expierence. Many find that the friends they make inside Antioch become family outside Antioch, bringing the same presence of friends and God to their daily lives.

At Kippax, we are here to support each other. We are an intricate circle of friends whose companionships bring something special to each of our lives. Coming to Antioch isn't compulsory, and no one is ever pressured into attending, however so many return to our group looking for something that Antioch seems to provide.
