Living the Kingdom Now

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)

In this Gospel passage, Jesus invites us into a posture of readiness—not a fear-driven vigilance, but a hopeful and active anticipation. He tells us the kingdom has already been given. This is not just a future promise, but a present invitation. We are not passive recipients waiting for the kingdom to arrive; we are co-creators, called to live now in a way that draws the kingdom near.

The Parousia—the coming of Christ—is unknown in timing, but certain in promise. Because we do not know when the Master will return, Jesus calls us to live as if He might come at any moment. That does not mean living anxiously or frantically, but intentionally and generously. Every moment becomes meaningful. Every decision is a chance to reflect the light of the kingdom already sown in our hearts.

Jesus’ parables here speak of servants who stay awake, who keep their lamps lit, who do their work faithfully while the Master is away. The message is clear: discipleship is not a waiting room but a way of life. The delay of the Master’s return is not permission to become complacent—it is the space in which the kingdom can grow through us.

To live “in anticipation” is to invest our lives in kingdom values: love, justice, mercy, humility, service. These values are not simply ethical ideals—they are the very architecture of God’s reign. When we live them, we make visible what is still hidden. We draw the not-yet into the now.

Jesus’ final words are sobering: much will be required of the one to whom much is given. If we have been entrusted with the message of the kingdom, then we are also entrusted with its mission. This is not a burden, but a profound dignity. The way we live—our choices, our priorities, our care for others—becomes our response to the gift of the kingdom already offered.

Let us stay awake not with fear, but with joyful anticipation. For the kingdom is not only coming. It is already here—within us, among us, waiting to be revealed through our faithful love.

HEART SPIRITUALITY

Mary’s role as repairer and advocate

O virgin beyond compare, why are you standing at the foot of the cross? You offer our Redeemer, the satisfaction he has claim to and the consolation he longs for as he offers himself in sacrifice, steeped in bitter sorrow, dying in agony, abandoned.

By your love and tears you repair the flagrant insults with which his Heart is saturated. You implore mercy for sinners present, past and future. Who knows whether the prayer of his Mother did not draw from the Heart of her Son and put on his lips, the admirable words he addressed to God for his torturers, at this his last hour? “Father, forgive them. I ask you this in the name of Her to whom I gave them as her children.”

PILGRIMS OF HOPE

Social Sin

All sin harms both the Church and society, making every sin in some way a social sin especially those that directly harm others. Saint John Paul II warned that repeated personal sins can build “structures of sin” that hinder human development. These often reflect a dominant mindset that normalizes selfishness and indifference, leading to social alienation. When systems of production and consumption prevent solidarity and self-giving, conversion of heart—not just moral duty—calls us to challenge and repair these structures. This is our loving response to the heart of Jesus, who teaches us to love as he does.

Prayer of Discernment
Come, Holy Spirit, Gift of wisdom and guide of God’s people,

we turn to You in this time of change and hope.
As the communities of St John’s and St Thomas’ continue to grow together,
we ask You to stir our hearts with the love that unites,
and lead us in the path of faithful discernment.
You know the story of our people— our joys, our struggles,
our hopes for the future.
As we listen for Your voice,
may we be inspired by the lives of the saints
and the holy names offered for our reflection.
Give us hearts that are open, minds that are attentive,
and spirits ready to follow where You lead.
May the name chosen for our new parish honour the past,
witness to our faith today, and call us forward with renewed purpose.
Come, Holy Spirit, breathe in us.
May this name speak of who we are, and who You are calling us to become.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
